This past weekend

I was headed out the door to shoot a wedding this past Saturday and while saying goodbye to my two boys the youngest said, “hold on I have to give you something.”  He searched around his room and grabbed this little tin box and put something in it and handed it to me with a smile.  Check out the photos below to see what it was.  Not sure what I am supposed to do with it while shooting a wedding but he needed to give it to me before I left.  Hilarious.  : )

In case you are wondering, that’s a leg from a little motocross rider that fell apart.

The Log Ride

This past Monday we had the awesome opportunity to go to King’s Dominion in Virginia for free!  That’s right free!  My wife got hooked up with 7 free admission tickets from one of her media reps.  We all had a great time and we didn’t even ride any of the big people roller coasters.  I usually stay away from purchasing the ride photos but I couldn’t resist the shot of Andrew.  Nicole got the second one to complete the group.  I know it doesn’t look like it but the first thing Andrew said when we got to the bottom was, “I wanna do it again”.  : )

Praying Mantis!

Every year we get at least one big praying mantis on our screen porch.  I caught this one out in the yard and had to put it on the porch myself.  They always manage to find a way out but not before the boys get a chance to hold and watch it.  They have to be one of the coolest bugs we have around here.  I love how they will turn their head to look at you.  We got to watch this one catch and eat a grasshopper that was unfortunate enough to be on the back porch too.  I wanted to shoot more but my littlest had to use the bathroom.  When you’re three you gotta go when you gotta go.  By the time I got back there wasn’t a crumb left!  Boys love this stuff.  : )

Cousins

We have had a very busy couple of weeks!  My sister and family have been in town to spend time with everyone before moving around the world for an extended stay in Japan (her husband is in the Air force).  We tried to get the kids together as much as we could all while going to vacation bible school every night as well.  We almost don’t know what to do with ourselves now that it’s all over but it was a ton of fun!  My sister has become quite the photographer and we decided to take the kids to the cool little town of Coats for a quick photo session with the kids.  Photographing kids is always interesting and when they are your own things get even more interesting with how they listen.  At least they all have smiles.  : )  Make sure you scroll all the way down to see how the session was cut short.

“If you’re a kid and you can hear me raise your hands.”

“If you’re a kid and you can hear me cross your arms.” …so Andrew puts one arm down and pats his head.

Now he’s got it.

…and now I’ve lost them.  : )

While shooting at the red barn a dude walked over and said he put a dent in the side of our van.  That’s when my session was cut short and I had to deal with this.  It’s not that bad though, just an inconvenience.  I’m very thankful that the guy who did it came and found me to let me know what happened.  He was leaving a business across the street from where we parked and didn’t see the van while backing up.  Thankfully it’s only the fender and hood.

Strawberry Time!

One of the coolest things about doing this photography thing is getting to go to my kindergartener’s school field trips.  Last week Luke’s class went to Smith Nursery to pick strawberries (and eat a few) and learn a few things about the nursery.  They all had a great time and got to bring home a basket of strawberries they picked themselves.  Luke’s basket was gone the next day.  Here’s three shots from the trip.  (and yes, the boy needs a haircut.)
